تحت عنوان "مقال في وعود الإسلاميين والعلمانيين والليبراليون" يطرح الكاتب "فهمي جدعان" إشكالية –نقدية- تحليلية حول مبادئ وجوهر النظم الفكرية الثلاث وهي إجابة عن سؤال محوري: "ما الذي يريده الإسلاميون؟ وما الذي يريده العلمانيون؟ وما الذي يريدوه الليبراليون". يقول الكاتب: "ليس الفرض هو مجرد التعريف بهذه النظم، وإنما تحقيق القول في دعاواها ووعودها، وبيان المدى الذي يمكن اجتيازه من أجل إدراك هذه الحالة من "الفعل التضافري" التي ألمعت إليها...". من هذا المنطلق يذهب الكاتب بعيداً في استنطاق هذه النظم الثلاثة ومزاعمها الظاهرة لتبين الحجة القوية في كل نظام من تلك الأنظمة والغاية النهائية والأساس القاعدي الذي يقوم عليه هذا النظام والإجابة عما يعتقده البعض له أساس لا يمكن البناء عليه في الفضاءات العربية الحالية والمنظورة.
كتاب فكري هام يضم تحليلات عميقة ومجادلة فكرية، ووقائع عن تجارب "الإسلاميون" و"العلمانيون" و"الليبراليون" جاءت في خمسة فصول متتالية تضمنت العناوين الآتية: جاء الفصل الأول بعنوان "في النظم الأحادية ونداءات الديمقراطية" أما الفصل الثاني فجاء بعنوان "وعود الإسلاميين.. دعوة الإسلام" ويرتك الفصل الثالث على: "فضاءات العلمانية.. المغلقة والمفتوحة" أما الفصل الرابع فجاء بعنوان "الليبرالية بحدود... الليبرالية بلا حدود" ثم الفصل الخامس والأخير في "فصل المقال".
