القدس مدينة الإسلام والسلام ومركز الإشعاع الروحي للديانات السماوية الثلاث، مدينة تضرب في أعماق التاريخ بناها العرب اليبوسيون، وتعرضت عبر مسيرة التاريخ لكثير من الحروب والغزوات، لقد اتجهت إليها أنظار بني البشر عبر آلاف السنين، وخفقت قلوبهم بحبها، وتعلقت أفئدتهم بها وبكوا حزناً لما ألم بها.
لقد نشأت العلاقة بين القدس والإسلام منذ أُسري برسول الله محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم من مكة إليها ومنها عرج إلى السموات العلى، كان ذلك في مكة قبل أن يهاجر إلى المدينة المنورة، وأصبح الإيمان بهذا الإسراء جزءاً من العقيدة الإسلامية.
ومن أجل القدس سالت الدماء وعقدت المؤتمرات والندوات وما زال يدور صراع سياسي في المحافل الدولية وأروقة الأمم المتحدة من أجل تقرير مصير القدس، وفشلت كل الجهود لإقناع إسرائيل بالتخلي عن القدس العربية بالوسائل السلمية لقد دافع عن القدس الجنود العرب عام 1948 ومناضلو الشعب الفلسطيني والعالم الإسلامي وفي حرب 1967 قاتل من أجلها الجيش العربي.
ولئن سقطت القدس فريسة الإحتلال العسكري فإن الأخطر من ذلك الإحتلال هو ما تقوم به السلطات الإسرائيلية من سباق مع الزمن للقضاء على هوية القدس وعروبتها وطابعها الحضاري والإسلامي وصولاً إلى هدم المسجد الأقصى، وإقامة الهيكل المزعوم على أنقاضه.
كل هذه المخاطر التي تحيط بهذا المبنى المقدس، تناولها المؤلف في كتابه هذا، ذاكراً أهمية القدس في التاريخ الإسلامي ثم تحدث عن الحروب والحملات التي حشدت من أجل إحتلال القدس عبر التاريخ ثم تحدث عن توجهات الشعب الإسرائيلي بشأن مستقبل القدس، وناقش القرارات الصادرة في المحافل الدولية، ثم تحدث عن مواقف كل من إسرائيل والولايات المتحدة والفاتيكان من القدس ثم ختم كتابه بخاتمة لخّص فيها نتائج الدراسة.
