الكتاب الذي بين يديك، وبدلاً عن تحديد الوصفات والتطبيقات الإقدامية كما هي المؤلفات المتداولة، يتبنى أسلوب عرض المحظورات والممنوعات والمحذورات الاجتنابية والكشف عن قائمة العراقيل والصدمات التربوية التي يتفاعل الأولياء والمربون في توسيع رقعتها بهدف تربية الأبناء. وأكثر هذه الصدمات تتكون اعتباطياً ودون وهي ولكن في منطلق الشفقة وطلب الخير مما يأتي على الأبوين بشعور طاغ بالذنب والندم وبحسرة كبرى عند الإطلاع على إفرازاتها ونتائجها فيجعلهم يعضون بمرارة على أناملهم أنهم حرموا أبنائهم من نعمة الاستقلال والقدرة على إدارة شؤونهم بما بذلوه لهم من حب وإسناد أعمى.
فعلى سبيل المثال، ترغب أم ما أن ينشأ ولدها شجاعاً باسلاً فتجهد منذ البداية أن تمنع خوف ابنها من مختلف الأشياء بأساليب تربوية خاصة. إنها ترغب مثلاً أن لا يكون للابن خبرة خوف وهلع من الظلام. وعند انقطاع التيار الكهربائي وانتشار الظلام في الغرفة تشعر أن طفلها قد يخاف من الظلام بينما قد لا يتكون مثل هذا الشعور لديه لكونها أول مرة يختبر فيها الظلام. ولكن الأم بمجرد انقطاع التيار الكهربائي تحذر ابنها أن: "عزيزي! إياك أن تخاف، سأضيء شمعة حالاً، ولكن يجب أن لا تخاف أنت من الظلام، لا داعي للخوف".
هذا التأكيد على الطفل، من قبل الأم، وإن استهدف منعه من الخوف، إلا أن "أثره الخفي" هو "تسويغ الخوف" والإيحاء للطفل بأسلوب "لا واع وغير مباشر" بهذا الخطاب وهو: كان عليك أن تخاف". هكذا يداهم الخوف الطفل فجأة فيقول في نفسه: "إذا كان علي أن أخاف وإلا ما كانت أمي تمنعني من الخوف".
