بعد أفول الحضارة اليونانية، وسيطرة المسيحية على حضارة روما، حملت الإسكندرية شعلة إستمرار ذلك الإرث الفلسفي، وكانت هيباتيا، المرأة الفيلسوفة، أشهر الفلاسفة الذين دافعوا عن الفلسفة بإعتبارها تمثل تراث الفكر البشري، وأن أولئك الذين يريدون إحلال الحقيقة الواحدة محل الحقيقة المتعددة بتعدد العقول إنما يقضون على هذا التراث العظيم.
في سياق روائي متخيّل يكتب لنا فرح العشّة تلك المحنة التي عاشتها هيباتيا، الممثلة بالفلسفة، في مواجهتها لأصحاب الأردية السود الذين يحاولون فرض هيمنتهم على المجتمع، والذي هو في جوهره صراع بين الفكر المتعدد والفكر المنغلق.
