هذا الكتاب عبارة عن أربعين حديثاً جمعها مصنفها في فضل عمل المعروف ومساعدة الآخرين، غالبها من الجامع الصغير للسيوطي وقليل منها لم ترد فيه.
وهذه الأربعين الحديث مفيدة في بابها، وإن كان المصنف قد سبق في هذا المضمار من علماء متقدمين، وحفاظ كبار قد جمعوا هذه الأحاديث المتعلقة بهذا الموضوع في أجزاء حديثية مستقلة، وفيما يلي ذكرهم.
وبالنظر لأهمية هذا الكتاب فقد تم الاعتناء بتحقيقه حيث اهتم المحقق بنسخ الأحاديث، وضبطها، ورجع إلى الكتب الحديثية لعزوها وتخريجها، وذكر ما قاله المحدثون وأهل الجرح والتعديل في إسناد كل حديث غالباً، من كلام على الرجال ونحو ذلك، وذلك باختصار بقدر الإمكان.
وعلق بعض الفوائد على بعض الأحاديث نقلاً عن "فيض القدير" للعلامة المناوي على الجامع الصغير للسيوطي، حيث إن معظم الأحاديث وردت فيه.
وقدم لهذا العمل بمقدمة مختصرة، وترجم للمصنف، ووصف النسخة الخطية التي حصل عليها، وعمل في آخر الكتاب فهارس للأحاديث الشريفة الواردة مرتباً لها هجائياً، يتلوه فهرس المراجع، ثم الفهرس العام.
