إن علم الفرائض من علوم الشريعة, التي ينبغي على المسلم أن يحرص على تعلمها, وقد كان العلماء ينظمون المتون في مختلف الفنون, وقد قالوا: من حفظ المتون, حاز الفنون. وإن من المنظومات التي ألفت في هذا الفن منظومة ((البرهانية)), وهي من أفضل المنظومات التي ألفت, وأخصرها وأسهلها حفظاً, فهي منظومة مؤلفة من (113) بيتاً فقط, ومع ذلك فقد حوت معظم أبواب الفرائض والمواريث, فهي أفضل من منظومة ((الرحبية)) التي ذاع صيتها وانتشر, عذبة الألفاظ, لا تقل عذوبة عن ((الرحبية)). ومن الأمثلة على اختصار هذه المنظومة وسهولتها قول البرهاني-رحمه الله-: ويمنع الإرث على اليقين.
