بلغ من اهتمام المسلمين بعلم الحديث الشريف، أن أفردوا له المؤلفات والتصانيف الذي تبحث في أدواته وعلومه، ومصطلحاته ورجاله. وقد قيض الله لهذا العلم رجالاً وقفوا جهدهم ووقتهم على شرح قواعده وبيانها، وفي هذا الكتاب (شرح لغة المحدث) يقدم المؤلف نظماً مختصرات نظمه أصول علم الحديث وشرحها شرحاً موجزاً وقد اقتبس المؤلف من بعض المنظومات المعروفة أبياتاً أو بعض أبيات استحسنها ووجدها أفضل مما قد يأتي به هو فآثرها على غيرها وهو ينبه إلى موضعها أينما وردت في منظومته حرصاً على أمانة النقل.
وفي هذا الشرح حرص المؤلف على تفصيل ما لم يفصل وتوضيح ما أجمل. في شرح مختصر سابق، وقد كانت غاية المؤلف أن يخدم علم الحديث الشريف، وأن يفيد طلبة العلم المبتدئين إذ جاءت منظومته جامعة مرتبة قوية النظم سهلة الفهم. وهو ما لم يتوفر في منظومات أخرى كثيرة.
