يعدّ كتاب "مختصر المنهي الأصولي" لابن الحاجب الذي شرحه القاضي عضد الدولة عبد الرحمن بن أحمد الايجي، ينبوعاً رئيسياً في مادة أصول الفقه المالكي وتظهر أهميته في الأمور التالية: عمل المصنف على شرح مادة الآله (المنطق) لاعتباره المنطق هو سد منيع لرد أي هجوم على أي مسألة كانت، فالمنطق يقوم على البراهين البديهية التي لا يرفضها أي عقل. فتحدث عن الحدود للأشياء وضوابطها كما تكلم عن البرهان والقضايا إن كانت عكساً أو نقيضاً، وعن الأشكال الأربعة كما أنه تكلم عن القياس المنطقي. ثانياً: انتقل بعد المنطق إلى الأساس الثاني الذي يعتمده أي أصولي في عمله في استخلاص القواعد الكلية من النصوص الإجمالية، فتكلم عن اللغة وتقسيماتها ومباحثها ما يشار إليه بالحقيقة وما يشار إليه بالمجاز كما أنه تكلم عن المشترك في الألفاظ وما يؤثر ذلك بالتالي على النصوص الإجمالية إن كانت كتاباً أم سنة. ثالثاً: انتقل بعد ذلك إلى الدخول في أول باب الأصول وهو (الحكم) فتكلم عن تقسيماته وكيفية استخلاص الحكم في النص. رابعاً: شرع بعد ذلك إلى التفصيل عن كل حكم من الأحكام؟ وأين؟ ومتى؟ ولماذا؟ وغيرها من المبهمات التي تحتاج إلى توضيح واستفسار. خامساً: ثم انتقل إلى مبحث مهم جداً وهو مبحث الأدلة الشرعية، فتكلم فيه عن القرآن والسنة والإجماع والقياس. وفصل فيها ورد على من يبطل الدليل الثالث (الإجماع) فكان رده شافياً كافياً. سادساً: ختم المؤلف بأبحاث تابعة للأصول جملة وتفصيلاً وهي: الاستدلال الاستصحاب والاستحسان والمصلحة المرسلة والاجتهاد وغيرها. وقد جاء هذا الكتاب محققاً حيث تمّ توضيح بعض المعاني المبهمة، والزيادة عليه بأكبر عدد ممكن من الأقوال لباقي الأئمة من الفقهاء والأصوليين، فكان حاوياً بذلك للمذاهب الثلاثة إضافة إلى المذهب الذي هو عليه.
