على بوابة الممر إلى النور، الممر ذاته الذي قرأ عنه الكثيرون في تجارب العائدين إلى الحياة، بعدما ابتعلتني موجةٌ من البلادة والخدر أوصلتني إليه بحركةٍ متثاقلة، هي أشبه بالإعادة السّريعة لمجريات حياتي السّابقة دون أن يكون لي أيّ قوّة في التّملّص من الإنجذاب نحو النّور في آخر الممر، فجأةً جلبني شخصٌ ما بقوّة، شخصٌ ما بقوة، شخصٌ صامتٌ كالموت، إلا أنْ وجهه كان عامراً بالأمان.
اعتقدتُ بداية أنه يسوع، إلا أن سيهاماً شرقية كهذه لا يمكن أن تكون ليسوع، نظر الشخصُ الملاك في عيني، وبدون أيّ رفّة جفن - كطبيب بداوي طفلاً - دسَّ يده في حلقي فتقيأتُ كلّ ما في جوفي، ثم حملني بيديه وأنا لا أنفكّ أتفحص معالم وجهه الجدّيّة أردتُ أن أسأله من أنت؟...
إلا أنني لم أقوَ على الكلام أبداً، خطابي عدّة خطواتٍ خارج الممر المظلم، ثم أنزلني على قدميّ وقال لي جملةً واحدةً، "عودي إلى جذورك"، قالها بصوتٍ ذي ذبذباتٍ لا يُمكن أن تُنسى، ذبذباتٍ تشرّبتها دهاليز سمعي إلى الأبد، لأصحو بعدها في غرفة الإنعاش.
حُفرت صورته في ذاكرتي، صرت أراه كلما اغمضت عيوني، بينما بقي صوته يظن في أذني ليلاً نهاراً كأنه منبه بيولوجي مربوط على النبض، "عودي إلى جذورك... عودي إلى جذورك"...
قال لي د. كارنسن الذي أشرف على أنعاشي في مشفى الملك جورج في حين نيوتن القريب: "إن تقَيُؤكِ المفاجئ والسريع كان السبب في نجاتك"... أخبرني أيضاً أن الجسم يقوم عادةً بردّة فعل دفاعيّة للتخلص من السموم التي تعرّض لها، ولكن في حالةٍ كحالتي تلك كان من المفروض أن تتوقف جميع الوظائف الحيويّة للجسم بسبب حالة التخدير المالية التي تعرّضت لها.
"حقاً لقد عُدِت من الموت يا مادلين... وهذه أعجوبة برأيي"... من يومها تحولّت كل أسئلتي التي لا جواب لها إلى سؤال واحدٍ، "من أنت؟"...
