كثر الحديث في الآونة الأخيرة عن الإبداع وعن تنمية الإبداع، وعن التفكير وتنمية التفكير، وقد تعددت البرامج التربوية التي تهتم بالمتعلّم، إلا أن نتائج الدراسات التربوية اختلفت مع برامج التفكير وتنمية التفكير، وقد أثبتت بعض الدراسات جدوى تلك البرامج، لكن جميع التربويين اتفقوا على إن إثراء المنهاج يعتبر وسيلة جيدة لتنمية التفكير؛ كما أن إستراتيجية المسائل الأكثر صعوبة أخذت موقعاً مهما قد يفوق ما أخذته برامج تنمية التفكير.
لذلك فإن العناية بتفكير التلميذ يعني العناية بالأنشطة التربوية التي تقدم إليه داخل المدرسة من خلال المنهاج أو من خلال أنشطة مصاحبة للمنهاج داخل أو خارج المدرسة، كما تعني العناية بتفكير المتعلم تقديم مسائل وأنشطة متدرِّجة في الصعوبة، فالمسائل الأولى تعوّد التلميذ على الحل كما تنشط عقله وتشجعه على الإستمرار في الحل، وهكذا حتى يصل إلى المسائل الصعبة فإذا إستطاع المعلّم حلها فإنها تعطيه ثقة كبيرة بنفسه في قدرته على حل المسائل كما أنها تنمي التفكير عنده وتنشط عقله.
كما إن العناية بتفكير المتعلّم تعني تقديم الأنشطة التربوية الممتعة والمشوقة، فبعض الأنشطة التربوية سواء أكانت أنشطة فردية أم جماعية فإنها تحث الفرد أن يبذل جهده في حل النشاط أو إثبات قدرته على حل ذلك النشاط بمشاركة المجموعة، وذلك من أجل تحقيق الذات، لذلك فإن توفير أنشطة إضافية أو إثرائية تكون مشوقة ومرتبطة بالمادة التعليمية، أصبح ضرورة لكل تربوي يريد أن يعمل على تنمية تفكير طلابه أو أبنائه.
لذلك جاء هذا الكتاب ليقدم أنشطة متنوعة، تناسب مستويات مختلفة من الأعمار، فقد تجد بعض الأنشطة التربوية التي تناسب سن الروضة أو المرحلة الإبتدائية كما ستجد بعض الأنشطة التربوية التي تناسب المرحلة الإعدادية والثانوية وكذلك المرحلة الجامعية والكبار.
