كانت المدارس من قبل تهتم بتعليم دروس الخط ضمن منهاج التعليم، وتعدها دروساً أساسية، الأمر الذي صقل ذوق الطلاب، وهذب نفوسهم.
ولم يكن المطلوب من دروس الخط آنذاك أن يتقن الطلاب الكتابة إلى درجة يصيرون معها خطاطين، بل المقصود أن يتعلموه، كي يكتبوا كلاماً مفهوماً، يقرؤه القارئ دون صعوبة ولا كدّ ذهن.
وهذه الكراسة وإن كانت موجهة للطلاب الذين يتعلمون العربية من غير أهلها، إلا أنها تنفع الكلاب عموماً، إن أحسنوا التدرب عليها بعناية.
هذا وقد اقتصرت، على نوعين فقط من الخطوط، خط الرقعة، وخط النسخ، ولم تتعدهما إلى غيرهما، ذلك لأنهما الخطان الأصلح للكتابة السريعة التي لا تحتاج إلى كبير عناية، وخصوصاً خط الرقعة.
على أن اكتساب الخط الحسن عادة، إن تدرب عليها الطالب ابتداءً تأصلت فيه بيسر وسهولة، في حين يصعب على الكبير أن يحسن خطاً اعتاد على صورة خاطئة منه، لأن الخط بصير كشكل المرء وهيئة خلقته، لا يقدر على تغييره إن تيبست يده عليه.
ولقد أخرجت هذه الكراسة بطريقة كتابة سطر في رأس كل صحيفة، تركت سطورها فارغة للتدرب على السطر المكتوب في الأعلى، وعلى المتدرب أن يحاكي رسم الكلمات، فيملأ بخطه السطور الفارغة.
تضم هذه الكراسة نماذج من خطي الرقعة والنسخ للمبتدئين من أجل تحسين خطوطهم. لذا تناولت الحروف من الألف إلى الياء بأشكالها الواردة في الكتابة في أول الكلمة ووسطها وآخرها.
أوردت الكراسة الجمل في رأس كل صحيفة، وتركت سطورها فارغة للتدرب على السطر المكتوب في الأعلى، والمطلوب من التدرب أن يحاكيه، فيملأ السطور الفارغة.
وطلبت الكراسة في المقدمة أن يبدأ المتدرب بالسطر الفارغ الأخير فإذا أنهاه ارتفع إلى السطر الذي فوقه وهكذا كي يحجب خطه هو لا خط الخطاط.
