قليلة هي الدراسات في المناهج الكيفية للعلوم الاجتماعية ذلك أن غياب هذه المناهج عن الدراسات الاجتماعية العربية هو أحد العوامل التي جعلها تتجمد وتتحول إلى كوابح فكرية وعلمية.
إن أزمة العلوم الاجتماعية العربية هي أزمة منهجية وفكرية وثقافية، فالنظريات والمناهج هما أساس الثقافة، وهما الأدوات التي تتطور من خلالها الثقافة.
إن المنهج الكيفي بأطيافه المعرفية المختلفة هو منهج تجريبي وتاريخي، ومنهج علم الحياة والإنسان وقوامه ودراسة الإنسان والواقع الاجتماعي وأبعاده المختلفة. وفي هذا الكتاب يحاول المؤلف أن يعرف بالمنهج الكيفي وتاريخه وقيمته العلمية، وحدود البحث الكيفي المنهجي، وخصائص المنهج الكيفي، والمضامين المنهجية لكل من البحث الكمي والكيفي.
ثم يتناول بالشرح الأسس النظرية للمنهج، وهي (التفاعلية الرمزية، والظاهراتية) وعلم الحياة، والمنهجية المعرفية، إضافة لذلك فقد خصص بحثاً للأسس المنهجية والمعرفية، وتناول فيه الأدوات المعرفية للمنهج، وكيف تكون علم الاجتماع المرئي، وتحليل الصورة والفيلم وماهية المنهج الوثائقي، والمنهج التاريخي، وأسس علم اجتماع المعرفة واتجاهاته المعاصرة.
كما تطرق للمنهج الهرمينوطيقي ونشأته والمسائل الفلسفية واللاهوتية الخاصة به ضمن هذا الثراء المعرفي والمنهجي حاول المؤلف تغطية كافة الجوانب المتعلقة بالمنهج الكيفي في العلوم الاجتماعية.
إن أزمة العلوم الاجتماعية العربية أزمة متعددة الوجوه، إنها أزمة منهجية وفكرية وثقافية، ذلك أن النظريات والمناهج هما أساس الثقافة وهما الأدوات التي تتطور من خلالها الثقافة... وهما بحاجة إلى نظرية وعناية.
هذا الكتاب يتناول الأسس النظرية للمنهج، ويتناول الأدوات المعرفية للمنهج، وكيف تكون علم الاجتماع المرئي وتحليل الصورة والفيلم وما هي المنهج الوثائق والمنهج التاريخي وأسس علم اجتماع المعرفة واتجاهاته المعاصرة.
