كانت المؤسسة العسكرية العربية السورية ولا تزال، أي منذ نشأتها الأولى في العهد الفيصلي، واستشهاد القائد البطل يوسف العظمة، وحتى الآن، حاملة لواء النهضة العربية، والحركة التحريرية التقدمية، والمبشرة بالوحدة والحرية والاشتراكية، على الرغم مما اعترض مسيرتها الطويلة، وكفاحها المضني، من عقبات ومؤامرات، وفواجع وانقلابات، وجاءت الحركة التصحيحية بقيادة الفريق حافظ الأسد لتدعم أهداف هذه المؤسسة، ولتؤكد هويتها الحقيقية، ولتجسد فيها أماني الأمة العربية بأسرها من خليجها الى محيطها.
ولئن أتيت في الصفحات التالية على ذكر بعض الأحداث السيئة التي مرت بها هذه المؤسسة من خلال سرد تاريخها بموضوعية وتجرد، فهذا لا يعني أني أنتقص من قدرها وأهدافها الحقيقية، بل جلَّ ما في الأمر هو أني أقرر الواقع، وأكتب للحقيقة والتاريخ.
