وهو تتبعٌ ومتابعة لتاريخ نشأة علم المكتبات ودراسة المخطوطات، والتنقيب عن المكتبات والزوايا القريبة والنائية ليس في المغرب فحسب، بل حتى في الأندلس وأوروبا، إلى أن ازدهر ذلك العالم، وعرفت فروعه ونشطت عن طريقه الحركة الفكرية والعلمية والثقافية بالبلاد المغربية، من خلال حياة أحد رواده وأوائل الباحثين فيه.
وهو في نهاية المطاف شهادات من أعلام الفكر والثقافة المغربية حول أهم جوانب حياة الإمام أبي المزايا محمد إبراهيم بن أحمد الكناني، العلم المشهور، والمفكر الكبير، الوطني الغيور الذي ترك بصمة مهمة في تاريخ العلمي والفكري والوطني المغربي من الوفاء إستعادتها والبحث فيها وفي مزاياها ومقوماتها.
كما أن الكتاب لا يخلو من أبحاث مهمة في التراث الإسلامي، والبحث في المخطوطات وكتب التراث المفقودة، خطتها براعة العلامة أبي المزايا، فهو علاوة على كونه سيرة شخصية لأحد أعلام المغرب، يعد حقيبة لمعلومات قيمة في التاريخ الفكري والثقافي والوطني المغربي المعاصر لا غنى للباحث عنها.
