يحتل الفكر الأصولي في سلم المعرفة الإسلامية أهمية كبرى، إذ عن طريقه يتم ضبط البيان الشرعي مصطلحاً ومفهوماً، وتقويم منهج الإجتهاد تأسيساً وتأصيلاً.
ومن هنا، شكل علم الأصول مدخلاً أساسياً لفهم العلوم الشرعية، فهو بمثابة الآلة لهذه العلوم بلغة القدماء، أو قل هو المنهج الذي تدرس به هذه العلوم بلغة المحدثين؛ لأن الفكر الأصولي يمد المشتغل بالعلوم الشرعية بنسق من المفاهيم تشكل رؤيته للإجتهاد والإستنباط من جهة، ومن جهة أخرى يمده بمجموعة القواعد والآليات التي يستخرج بها الأحكام الشرعية العملية من أدلتها التفصيلية، ومن ثم، لا يستطيع الفقيه أن يجتهد في الفقه دون اللجوء إلى علم الأصول كما لا يستطيع المتكلم أن يستغني عنه في التنظير لمقولاته في علم الكلام.
تبرز أهمية هذه الدراسة للمنهج الأصولي عند ابن جُزَيّ، هذه الدراسة التي توخى الكاتب أن تجمع بين النظر والتطبيق، فلم تقتصر على رصد معالم المنهج الأصولي والإستدلالي عند ابن جُزَيّ من خلال مصنفاته، وبيان موقعها في منظومة المصنفات الأصولية بالغرب الإسلامي فحسب، بل سعت إلى الكشف عن الآليات الأصولية التي استثمرها ابن جُزَيّ في تحليل الخطاب الشرعي، واتخذت مجالاً تداولياً يتعلق بالأحكام الشرعية، ومن هذا المنظور جاءت هذه الدراسة مستوعبة لكل التراث المعرفي لإبن جُزَيّ الذي يتناول كلا من التفسير والفقه والأصول.
