ورافق هذا التطور تطورات في التقنيات والأساليب العلمية لإدارة محفظة الأوراق المالية وحسابات العائد والمخاطرة على الأوراق المالية.
وظهرت نظريات في هذا المجال تضمنت الأساليب التي يمكن استخدامها لتقي ضد المخاطر التي ينطوي عليها التداول في أسواق المال.

ولعل ما فاقم المشكلة أكثر، تلك السطوة التي أصبحت تمثلها فئة المضاربين، والذين أصبح بمقدورهم أن يفقروا دولة بكاملها... مما زاد حدّة الأزمات المالية، وحدّة النتائج التي تترتب عليها، حتى يمكن القول أن البورصات أخذت تفقد وظيفتها الأساسية، كمكان لمقابلة العرض مع الطلب على الأوراق المالية، ولتعبئة المدخرلت لتوجهها في القنوات الإستثمارية المختلفة.
