قليلون من يعرفون أن عبيدات الرما كانوا ـ إلى جانب كونهم مساعدين للرماة أو القناصين خلال مواسم الصيد؛ يقومون بوظيفة "التحياح"؛ أي رد الطرائد نحوهم حتى تنالها بنادقهم، والترويح عنهم في فترات استراحتهم بالغناء، وتشخيص مشاهد مسرحية غالبا ما يغلب عليها الطابع الكوميدي ـ فرقة شعبية جوالة على شاكلة تروبادور القرون الوسطى في الغرب، تنتقل بين القرى خارج تلك المواسم مع بداية فصل الربيع وإلى غاية الفراغ من الحصاد وجمع المحاصيل؛ حيث تقدم فرجاتها الليلية في الفضاء القائم أمام خيمتها الصغيرة لتستدر سخاء وجود الأهالي من زرع، وصوف، وسمن، وعسل… لا سيما وأن هؤلاء الأهالي كانوا يضفون على أفرادها هالة من القداسة؛ إذ كانوا يتجنبون سخطهم مخافة أن يصيبوهم بسوء، كما كانوا يلتجئون إليهم للفصل في نزاعاتهم، وطلب دعائهم "الفاتحة" قصد رفع الضرر عنهم، وجلب كل أسباب الخير والبركة.
وقد تم ضم مسرحيتي "مريشا" و"جعدونة" إلى نفس الكتاب؛ نظرا لأن عالم البادية في قبحه كما في جماله يجمعها، وطبعا فإن فن عبيدات الرما يحضر بشكل أو بآخر فيها جميعها.
