عالم ومثقف عربي، ولد في دمشق، سورية سنة 1922، مثل سورية في عدة مجالات منذ سنة 1945.
كان المستشار العام للجمهورية العربية المتحدة في نيويورك، ومندوب الجمهورية العربية السورية الدائم في الأمم المتحدة.
كما عين وزيراً للاقتصاد في الحكومة السورية سنة 1964، وفيما بعد كان مستشاراً في مؤسسة الدراسات الفلسطينية.
ألف عدة كتب بالعربية والإنكليزية.
Book Description
عاش لايبنتز في القرن السابع عشر (1646-1716) وهو العصر الذي شهد ثورة علمية جذرية غيرت نظرة الإنسان الى الكون ومنه انطلقت النظرة العقلية التي ميزت العالم الحديث. لكن العلماء الذين قاموا بهذه الثورة كانوا فلاسفة أيضاً فكان التأثير بين الفلسفة والعلم مستمراً ومتبادلاً. وكان لايبنتز من مؤسسي الفلسفة الحديثة ومن كبار فلاسفة الإنسانية، عرف بعبقرية شاملة فلم تقتصر مساهماته على الفلسفة بل تعدّتها الى الرياضيات والعلوم الطبيعية وكان رائداً من رواد المنطق الرياضي فادرك أهميته قبل أي من معاصريه. لكن لايبنتز لم يقطع صلته بالتقليد الفلسفي بل أعطى القدماء مكانتهم وكان بمثابة الصلة بين القديم والجديد. كانت مشكلته استمراراً للمشكلة الفلسفية الكبرى: الموجود تفسيره واكتساف المبدأ الأول فيه، وتحديد مركز الإنسان في الكون وتأكيد حريته. وقد ذهب الى أن الجوهر قوامه قوة روحية فاعلة تحقق في نموها المبدأ الروحي الكلي الذي ينظم جميع الموجودات. وتتدرج مراتب الموجودات تبعاً لوضوح ادراكها أو غموضه. ومن هذا المبدأ تحدر تأثير لايبنتز الى كبار فلاسفة العصر الحديث ككانط وفخته وهيجل. ولم يكن منعزلاً عن مشاكل عصره السياسية بل عاشها دون أن ينجرف فيها بحكم ما فيه من أصالة فكرية تجعله يضع المطلق فوق النسبي.
