فإنّ فكرة دراسة بخلاء الجاحظ في ضوء منهجي بروب وغريماس تنطلق من دراسةٍ صغيرة في مرحلة الماجستير ثم استقرت عليها قناعة الباحث عند إطلاعه على مصادر الموضوع ومراجعه.
ويأتي إختياري هذا البحث (بنية الحكاية في البخلاء للجاحظ، دراسة في ضوء منهجي بروب وغريماس) إلى الأسباب الآتية:
أولاً: الرغبة في بعث جزءٍ من التراث العربي برؤية حديثة، والبحث عن قيمة هذا التراث وعبقرية عصره، فكانت حكايات البخلاء هي التراث، وكانت الرؤية الحديثة هي (منهجا بروب وغريماس) اللذين كانا معلماً في الدراسات السردية التي اقتدى بها الكثير من البحاثين الذين جاءوا بعدهما.
ثانياً: قلة الدراسات السردية العربية التي تناولت بخلاء الجاحظ (دراسة في البنية السردية) فلا يوجد من هذه الدراسات إلاّ دراسةً واحدة سنذكرها لاحقاً.
ثالثاً: غنى كتاب البخلاء وثراؤه، فهو يحتوي على الجد والهزل والطريف واللطيف، الأمر الذي يدفع الباحث لمحاولة الغور في أعماق هذا النص والتعرف على شيء من خفاياه التي أنتجها عقل فذ هو عقل الجاحظ.
فكتاب البخلاء - وإن كان يتصف بالسهولة - لا يخلو من صعوبة بالنسبة للدارس ولا سيما إذ كانت دراسته تقوم على منهجين غربيين يحملان ثقافتين مختلفتين عن الثقافة العربية، فبروب يمثل الثقافة الروسية وغريماس يمثل الثقافة الفرنسية اللتين تختلفان عن الثقافة العربية، ومن ثم فإنّ فهم التراث في ضوء ثقافةٍ مغايرة قد يخضع ذلك التراث إلى قوالب جاهزة في حالة عدم مراعاة هذه الفروق.
