في هذا الكتاب يتناول الشيخ حسين الخشن بعضاً من القضايا المشهورة والمقولات السائدة والمتداولة حول السيدة "عائشة رضي الله عنها" وأزواج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، وبنات رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، ولكن وفقاً لرؤية شيعية معاصرة انضوت تحت عناوين ثلاث في الكتاب هي: 1-تنزيهاً لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، 2-تنزيه زوجات الأنبياء عن الفحشاء، 3-زينب ورقية وأم كلثوم رضي الله عنهم، وذلك رداً على رأيٍ يدّعي أنهن ربائب ولسنا بنات رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم.
اما عن مبرر العمل في هذا الكتاب فيوضحه المؤلف بــ "هو علمنا بأن كثيراً من هذه المشهورات، لا أصل لها، وهي إن لم تكن من الموضوعات من أصلها، فإنها ربّما تشكلت بطريقة عاطفية وليست ع لمية، كما تتشكل الكثير من الأساطير والخرافات...".
ومن هنا، يبدأ المؤلف بفكفكة كثير من المقولات التاريخية، ويخضعها للنقد العلمي والموضوعي، وأهمها ما اتصل بحياة النبي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم عموماً وحياته الزوجية خصوصاً، وأحدها: تعدد زوجاته، وثانيها: قضية زواجه من زينب بنت جحش، وثالثها قضية زواجه صلى الله عليه وسلم من أم المؤمنين عائشة رضي الله عنها في سن مبكرة، التاسعة من عمرها، ورابعها: هل آيات الإفك نازلة في عائشة أم في مارية القبطية؟...
يستعرض المؤلف هذه المقولات بالعودة إلى نصوصها الأولى ومصادرها الأصلية، ثم يعمل على دراستها وتحليلها وفق منهج البحث العلمي الذي لا يكتفي بوثاقة رجال السند ورواة الحديث، بل يحلل المضمون بكل أمانة ودقة بعيداً عن كل المؤثرات والأفكار المسبقة والعواطف دفاعاً عن نبي الإسلام بالحجة والبرهان...
