في هذا الكتاب يتصدى الباحث الأردني المعروف الدكتور "نهاد الموسى" أستاذ النحو العربي واللسانيات العربية في جامعة الأردن إلى معالجة مسألة هامة يعاني منها طلابنا في المدارس والجامعات وحتى المشتغلين بالعربية والمتخصصين فيها وهي: موضوع الخطأ في أدائهم للغة العربية، لهذا كله، اجتهد "الموسى" لدراسة أسباب هذا الخلل ورأى أنه لا يجدي نفعاً أن نكتفي بالتنبيه الفوقي: هذا خطأ وصوابه كذا، أو: قل كذا، ولا تقل كذا ... فما هو الحل؟
يقول الدكتور "الموسى": رأيت أننا إذا استخرجنا نظرية الخطأ وأصبحنا قادرين على أن نقدم للجمهور الطلبة والكتبة تفسيراً يهيء لهم "وعياً نظرياً مقنعاً" على حالهم مع اللغة فإننا نستطيع أن نأخذ بأيديهم إلى تدارك أخطائهم في اللغة على بيّنة ...".
لأجل ذلك جاء تناول الباحث ما سماه الخطأ الخاطىء على أنه ظاهرة تستحق التوقف والتحليل والتفسير باعتباره الخطوة المنهجية الضرورية في سبيل تصحيحه، من هنا جاءت أهمية هذا البحث الذي يعد بحق مشروعاً هاماً في معرفتنا باللغة العربية، يسد ثغرة من ثغراتها ويرتقي بارتكاساتها على بيّنة أن طلابنا "على التحقيق يعرفون من العربية شيئاً كثيراً يتحصل فيهم بعوامل التعلم والإكتساب ولكننا نعتده من تحصيل الحاصل، إذ لا يستوقفنا فيما نقرأ إلا ما نعتده "خطأ" ...".
