القصّة بسيطة. لكنّها بساطة ظاهريّة، تخفي تحتها شخصيّات مركّبة طرحها الكاتب بنفاذ بارع إلى دواخلها وخيال متفلّتٍ حدّ الجنون يطال أكثر المناطق عمقًا في أرواحها. هي قصّة بلدٍ صادره العسكر، يستوطنه شعبٌ مقموعٌ لا يلبث أن يتمرّد، ويحكمه جنرال مجنون تسير خلفه حاشية جبانة مسرنمة.
كلّنا ذلك الجنرال في جبروته. والجنرال كلّنا في هزيمتنا.
