وأدب الأطفال لا يختلف عن أدب الكبار من حيث البناء النصي حكاية كان أو مسرحية أو شعر وكذلك الحال بالنسبة لأهدافه العامة كونه يوفر المتعة والتسلية وينتمي الخيال الإبداعي والتذوق الجمالي، إضافة إلى الإشباع النفسي للحاجات مع غرس وترسيخ الكثير من القيم السامية، مع قضايا أخرى يتبناها المؤلف كنصرة الخير على الشر والحق على الباطل، وعلاقة الإنسان بالآخر وبالبيئة والحفاظ عليها، حيث أن ذلك يمكن أن يمثل إسهاماً متواضعاً في مواجهة العديد من التحديات التي يسعى المجتمع إلى تجاوزها بأبعادها المختلفة الإجتماعية والتربوية والإقتصادية مما يتطلب تركيز أكبر على المهام المطلوبة فيه وخاصة بالنسبة للأسرة وثقافة أطفالها.
وللجدات أدوار مهمة في تنشئة الأطفال، ومن بينها نقل الموروث الشعبي إليهم بطرق عديدة في مقدمتها الحكايات الخيالية الخرافية لما فيها من عبر ومفاهيم أخلاقية تساعد على تعديل السلوك.
