أنجزت كثير من الدراسات عن الزوايا و الصلحاء في المغرب وباقي العالم العربي و اﻹسلامي . فالكتابات التقليدية بمختلف فروعها اهتمت بمناقب الصلحاء و كراماتهم . و الكتابات الكولونيالية استغلت دراسة الزوايا في إطار المشروع السياسي الاستعماري،و الخطاب السلفي هاجم ظاهرة الصلحاء و الزوايا كبدعة تمس جوهر العقيدة وتجانب اﻹسلام الصحيح ،كما احتلت الكتابة عن الزوايا مكانة متميزة عند المؤرخين المغاربة المعاصرين الذين ركزوا على الدور السياسي لهذه الزوايا في تاريخ المغرب . وتعدد الاهتمام هذا يوحي بالأهمية الخاصة للزوايا و الصلحاء في العلم اﻹسلامي و تعدد الخلفيات لهذه الظاهرة ، من خلفيات دينية و سياسية و اجتماعية واقتصادية و حتى أدبية . ومن هنا فإن أهمية هذا الكتاب تكمن في جانبين أساسين : أولا في موضوعه الذي يمس قضايا حيوية في معرفة مجتمعنا العربي و اﻹسلامي ، ثانيا في طبيعة المنظور المعرفي الذي عالج به المؤلف الموضوع و زاوج فيه بين أدوات الأنثربولوجي و المؤرخ. وقد أعطى هذا المنظور نكهة خاصة للكتاب ، في كتاب في التاريخ حين يؤرخ لزاوية في غرب المغرب بكل أبعادها السياسية و الدينية و الاجتماعية ، وهو \أيضا كتاب في الأنثربولوجيا بما يضمه من وصف اثنوغرافي للمنطقة ، وهو فوق هذا كتاب نظري يحاور صاحبه مختلف من سبقوه في دراسة المجتمع المغربي وغيرهم ممن درسوا موضوعات متشابهة في العالمين العربي و اﻹسلامي مستعملا في كل هذا منحى نظريا يوضحه منذ البداية .وقد مكن هذا المنظور المؤلف من طرح تساؤلات ذات جرأة بعيدة .
