المفارقة التالية هي أن المقارنة الفلسفة للشخص، على اختلاف أطروحاتها، تسعى إلى التأكيد ضرورة الحذر من اختزال الشخص في الإنسان وما ينتج عن ذلك من إغفال لامتدادات الهوية، والحذر أيضا من اختزاله في الانتماء الثقافي والاجتماعي وما يستتبع ذلك من انغلاق وتمركز حول الذات. بهذا المعنى دأب الفلاسفة على مقاربة الشخص باعتباره قادرا على التفلسف والتأمل والنقد، وخلق مسافة بينه وبين ذاته، بينه وبين العالم، بينه وبين عالم الناس، لأنه حامل لوعي تفكيري. لكن الشخص لا يستطيع بتفكيره إدراك كل شيء، ولا يستطيع بوعيه التحكم في كل شيء: إنها مفارقة الشخص الناتجة عن اللامفكر فيه واللاوعي. هاهنا يتجلى الشخص ليس كموضوع، بل كخلق ذاتي وكتجربة معاشة، إنه يتجاوز ما يعرفه عن ذاته، وما يمكم أن نعرفه عنه.
