برزت ألحان حسين بن أبي بكر المحضار منذ العشر سنوات الأخيرة. ومن هنا ابتدأت الأغنية الحضرمية تستعيد مكانتها بعد أن فقدتها طويلاً. وأضحى الحضارمة يرددون أغانهيم الأصلية المتنوعة وهي فاتحة عهد تطورها وازدهارها.
وقد وجد الحضارمة في أغاني المحضار مادة غنية لم يعم تأثيرها القوي المجال المحلي فحسب؛ بل إنه تأثير تجاوز الحدود الحضرمية إلى كافة بقاع جنوب بلاد العرب، كما قدر له أن يخطو خطوة أوسع فسرى ذلك التأثير سريان النسيم العليل في عديد من أرجاء العالم العربي.
وفي هذا الكتاب ديوان لمجموعة من الأغاني الحضرمية الشيقة، وهي ليست كل ما وضعه حسين أبو بكر المحضار من الأغاني، وإنما هي جزء من قصائده الشعبية التي صاغها لألحان معينة.
