اتبع تولوز لوتريك من أجل قبوله في المجتمع ورغم شكله الخارجي أسلوباً غريباً في الحديث يسرّ السامع مهما بلغت درجة كراهيته للفنان. كان اجتماعياً يأكل بشراهة ويظهر اهتمامه بما يقوله مضيفوه فيمتعهم بحكاياته وقصصه. كانت كل الأشياء مسموح بالتنديد بها ما عدا الفن لأن الفن في نظره كان مقدساً، وكان لبّ وجوده وسبب حياته. احتاج للفن لكي يعيش وكان يحب الحياة لأنها تمكنه من خدمة الفن. أحب تولوز الرسم التخطيطي وتفوق فيه فجاءت ضربات ريشته أكيدة وواثقة وسريعة. لم يتوقف عن الرسم في كراسات المدرسة وعلى أغطية الموائد، عرف برسمه الجريء وترتيب مواضيع لوحاته، جعلوه سيد رسامي البوسترات وعندما تطور من طباعة الألوان بدأت تظهر بوستراته بأربعة ألوان. هذا هو هنري دي تولوز لوتريك موضوع هذا الكتاب الذي يشرح فيه مؤلفه عن حياة وأعمال هذا الفنان التشكيلي المبدع الذي أثرى فن الرسم بالعديد من لوحاته وبوستراته المميزة والمعبرة عن عصره الخالد والتي جاء العديد منها ضمن طيات هذا الكتاب.
