إنّ كتاب "نهج البلاغة" الذي جمعه الإمام أبو الحسن محمد بن الحسين الموسوي وهو كتاب في الإتقان يتلو الفرقان لكونه حاوياً لكلمات وصيّ من نزل إليه القرآن الكريم، فلذلك لا يسع لأحد وصف ما فيه من فنون الفصاحة، ووجوه البلاغة والحِكَم الإلهيّة، والمواعظ الحسنة الشافية كما هو حقه.
كما قال صاحب الكتاب الذي ضاق نطاق الوصف عن التبسط في شخصيته في سبب تأليفه: (علماً أن ذلك يتضمن من عجائب البلاغة وغرائب الفصاحة وجواهر العربيّة وثواقب الكلم الدينية ما لا يوجد مجتمعاً في كلام ولا مجموع الأطراف في كتاب، إذ كان أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام مشرع الفصاحة وموردها ومنشأ البلاغة ومولدها، ومنه عليه السلام ظهر مكنونها وعنه أخذت قوانينها وعلى أمثلته حذا كل قائل خطيب وبكلامه إستعان كل واعظ بليغ، ومع ذلك فقد سبق وقصروا، وتقدّم وتأخروا.
مع ذلك اجتهد جماعة من العلماء المتبحرين من المتقدمين والمتأخرين كل على قدر بضاعته في تفسير جمله، وتبيين مشكلاته وتوضيح معضلاته، ولكن لم يأت أحد منهم فيما رأيته مثل ما أتى به، الحاج مير حبيب الله الهاشمي الموسوي الخوئي، فإنه بعد عوده من النجف الأشرف إلى بلدة خوى شمّر ذيوله وصرف برهاً من زمانه وعمدة أيام شبابه في تأليف كتاب (منهاج البراعة) في شرح نهج البلاغة، فإتى بكتابٍ على نهج غريب ونمط عجيب، لم أرَ مثله قط في زبر الأولين ولم تسمح به قريحة أحد من المتأخرين، ينتفع منه كل أحد على قدر رتبته ويستضيء به كل من أراد دفع ظلمته، فتأليفه هذا وسائر تأليفه غير المطبوعة يوقف القارئ على تبحره في العلوم المتنوعة، وبسط يده في المعارف الإلهية.
