يشتمل الكتاب على معلومات مفيدة في أدب الرحلات من النواحي الجغرافية والتاريخية والسياسية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية، وتسجيل المشاهدات واللقاءات الهامة بكبار الشخصيات في تلك البلدان. موضوع الكتاب رحلة إلى مكة وهي الرحلة التي استغرقت عامًا حول الكرة الأرضية مرورًا بسيبريا والصين واليابان والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، وأوربا ومصر، والشام وبيروت واليونان وتركيا.
وقد نالت رحلة المؤلف إلى مكة والمدينة النصيب الأوفر حيث قضى بهما مدة ثلاثة أشهر كاملة سجل فيها أعظم وصف لبيت الله الحرام في مكة، كما وصف مسجد الرسول بالمدينة وشاهد القبور والجبال والآثار الإسلامية هناك. كذلك وصف المؤلف سائر بلدان المشرق العربي التي زارها كالشام وبيروت وبيت المقدس وجبل الزيتون وقبة الصخرة ومسجد عمر بن الخطاب. وفي رحلته إلى مصر شاهد الاسكندرية وزار أهرامات الجيزة والتقى بالسلطان عباس حلمي ملك مصر وزار قصر الخديوي وسافر إلى السويس ثم انتقل من هناك إلى جدة عن طريق البحر الأحمر وقام بتسجيل كل لقاءاته ومشاهداته.
أسلوب الكتاب: يتميز بالنثر البسيط السلس الواضح الخالي من الصنعة والتكلف، مكتوب بطريقة شيقة تجذب القارئ لمتابعة الأحداث بدقة. كما يعد الكتاب إثراء للمكتبة العربية بترجمة كتاب في أدب الرحلات يسجل المعلومات الخاصة ببلدان المشرق العربي ونقل تلك الأسفار لتكون مصدرًا لأحسن ما في الآداب الشرقية والإسلامية.
