"كلما مضى يوم على اختفائها المفاجئ، كلما بانت حكاية والدتها أكثر مقبولية، حتى جريدتها نشرت خبر غيبتها مع علامة تعجب كبيرة تعليقاً على رواية الأم. وأعادت نشر مقالاتها السابقة في الزاوية نفسها المخصصة لـ"سحر" لكن تحت عنوان ثابت بالخط العريض "بالانتظار". إلا أن زملاء العمل تحدثوا فيما بينهم فقط وتسربت المعلومات إلى جميع الصحافيين في البلد عن أزمة عاطفية ونفسية سيطرت على الزميلة "سحر" بسبب استغراقها في متابعة أخبار الانتفاضة الفلسطينية التي اندلعت قبل مدة. وربما دفعتها هذه الأزمة إلى الهروب من يومياتها، وتوقع بعضهم أن يراها متشردة في شوارع القرى الجنوبية أو في ضواحي بيروت... انتشرت الشائعات، ضاعت الحقيقة، ليس إلى وقت طويل، فالعديد من سكان شبعا شاهدوها في الليالي الباردة وعندما يكتمل القمر بدراً، وقبل أن تتوارى نجمة الصبح، تتجول بحرية، وأقسم المؤذن أنه شاهدها تتنفس مع الصبح وتتوضأ لصلاة الفجر، وصار ينتظرها من دلوك الشمس إلى غسق الليل، كما شاهدها الرعاة تسرح بالقرب من قطعانهم، وأدلوا بشهادات محيرة، وقالوا أنهم شاهدوها بأم العين وهي تعبر الشريط الحدودي الشائك مع فلسطين المحتلة دون أن يتمزق جسدها أو ينزف نقطة دم واحدة، وتتوغل بالقرب من بحيرة طبريا ثم تعود غير عابئة بحقول الألغام وبالمراكز العسكرية الصهيونية المنتشرة فوق التلال".
بين الحقيقة والخيال يمضي الروائي في سردياته التي تحكي قصة فتاة عشقت وطنها وغابت فجأة في عتمات الآلام، آلام الاحتلال ولوعة الفراق، وصارت قصة تروى على ألسنة الناس.
