على الرغم من الاهتمام الكبير الذي حدث تجاه الطفولة في العالم والذي ترجم في صورة مواد معاهدات ومواثيق دولية انعكست بشكل كبير على معظم الدول التي قامت بدورها بتفعيلها من خلال إصدار تشريعات وطنية تهدف إلى حماية الطفولة وإنشاء آليات لمراقبة وتنفيذ هذه المواد. إلا أن الواقع مازال يرصد وجود تحديات كثيرة متعلقة بالطفولة مثل وفاة ملايين الأطفال بسبب أمراض كان يمكن تفاديها واستغلال مئات الآلاف من الاطفال في الحروب الأهلية والنزاعات المسلحة وسقوطهم ضحايا بسبب الحصار والاحتلال العسكري وزيادة معدلات العنف الجسدي والنفسي ضد الأطفال وتفشي ظاهرة وانتشار ظاهرة أطفال الشوارع وعمالة الأطفال واستغلالهم في تجارة المخدرات واعمال القوادة والدعارة والبغاء وهو ما يؤكد الحاجة إلى مزيد من الجهود الحثيثة حتى لا نجد أنفسنا أمام شريحة من أطفال العالم مدمرين لا يجدى فيهم نصح ولا إصلاح.
