يمثل هذا الكتاب محاولة متعددة الاجتهادات في التنظير لما بعد الماركسية، ولعل عنوان الكتاب نفسه يعبر عن هذا التعدد بما يكتنفه من لبس. ومواده وأبحاثه هي ثمرة ندوة متخصصة نظمها "المنبر الثقافي" وعقدت في كلية الدراسات الأفريقية والشرقية (SOAS) بجامعة لندن، أواخر حزيران 1995 على مدى يومين كاملين بمشاركة خمسة عشر باحثاً أوروبياً وعربياً. وميزة هذه الأبحاث أنها تمثل بمعظمها استجابة أوروبية لتحليل أزمة الماركسية، وتجاوزها، وتغطي الأبحاث حقولاً عديدة: الفلسفة، علم المنهج، اقتصاد التنمية، اقتصاد التنظيم، علم السياسة، العلاقات الدولية إلى غيرها من الحقول التي أتت في هذا الإطار.
