يتناول هذا البحث الشعر الملحمي والمسرحي عند الشاعر "عمر شافع مصطفى أبي ريشة القادري"، شاعر العروبة والإسلام، وهو شاعر العروبة بحكم أنه فلسطيني المولد، سوري النشأة، لبناني الإقامة، تونسي الأم، سعودي الجنسية، وسفير مصر وسورية إبان الوحدة في الهند والنمسا.
وشاعر الإسلام لأنه ذاد عنه بشعره، ونافح عنه بلسانه، فقد ذكر تضحيات الرسول الأعظم، وجهاد الصحابة في سبيل الدعوة الإسلامية، وخلّد معارك الإسلام والمسلمين في بدر وأحد ومكة وسائر الغزوات، ومر على اليرموك وحطين وميسلون وذكر القادة والأبطال وما قدّموه من تضحيات في سبيل رفع راية الحق، لتظل راية الإسلام شامخة عالية، فكان الشاعر بحق سيف الإسلام وصوت الحق...
وقد جاء هذا البحث في أربعة أبوب وتمهيد، تناول المؤلف في التمهيد الحياة السياسية والإجتماعية والفكرية في سورية، ثم تحدث في الباب الأول عن حياته ضمن العناوين التالية: "أسرته وعشيرته"، "مولده ونشأته"، "ثقافته وتعليمه"، "موهبته الشعرية"، "مكانته"، "آثاره الأدبية"، "وفاته".
أما الباب الثاني من هذا البحث، فقد قسمه إلى فصلين: هما القصة والملحمة، لما لهما من صلة وطيدة، حتى عَدَّهما بعض النقاد شيئاً واحداً، وقد تحدث في الفصل الأول عن فن القصة وتطورها في سورية، أما الفصل الثاني: فقد ضم شعر الملاحم حيث رصد له ما يقارب التسعمائة بيت في ثلاث عشرة قصيدة، ثم تحدث عن خصائص شعره المحلميّ، وحصرها في التجريدات المعنوية في بعض مطالع قصائده ووصف المعارك والحروب وخوارق العادات وقصر القصائد على البناء القصصي ثم وضع ملاحمه في ميزان النقد الأدبي لإظهار ماله وما عليه.
أما الباب الثالث: فقد تناول فيه شعره المسرحيّ، وقسمه إلى خمسة فصول: الفصل الأول، وتناول فيه نشأة المسرحية وتاريخها، وتناول في الفصل الثاني: العناصر الفنية للمسرحية من حوار وشخوص وصراع وفكرة وزمان وخاتمة، وفي الفصل الثالث: أشار إلى أنواع المسرحية وقسمها إلى مأساة، وملهاة، وفي الفصل الرابع: تناول مسرحيات الشاعر الشعرية بالتحليل، والنقد وقسمها وفق العمر الزمني لها، وتناول في الفصل الخامس: مسرحه الشعري في ميزان النقد، حيث أظهر فيه ماله وما عليه.
