تمهيد: يمهد للدراسة التي أحطنا بها الكتاب، الإمام أحمد ومنهج السلف في الاعتقاد، الإمام أحمد وقضية التأويل، الإمام أحمد وقضية التأويل، الإمام أحمد وقضية خلق القرآن (محنة الإمام)، موقف متقدمي الأشاعرة من التأويل وتراجع فحولاتهم عن منهج المتكلمين في ختام الأمر، الإمام أحمد وهذا المعتقد المروي عنه، راوي هذا المعتقد عن الإمام أحمد- نبذة عنه وعن مذهبه ومشايخه، التعريف بالنسخة الخطية وعمل التحقيق بها.
