إن بحث الفلاسفة في الجغرافية والبيئة والمناخ والأقاليم وأثرها في الإنسان ومن يعيش معه على الأرض، أمر لم يلتفت إليه الباحثون والدارسون في تاريخ الفلسفة وعلى وق علمي، إذ من المتعارف عليه بين هؤلاء الباحثين إن الفلاسفة قد وجهوا إهتماماتهم البحثية نحو موضوعات محددة، منها الميتافيزيقي والطبيعي والمنطقي والأخلاقي والسياسي والمعرفي وغيرها من موضوعات التفلسف، في حين أغفلوا موضوعات فلسفية أخرى ذات قيمة كبيرة ومنها هذا الموضوع الذي نبحث فيه وندرسه، ولكن ثبت اليوم أن هذا الأمر غير صحيح.
في البدء تطرح هذه الدراسة بإطارها النقدي وتطبيقاتها على نصوص الفلاسفة بخاصة السؤال الآتي: هل أن البيئة وما تحتويه من تربة ومياه ونباتات وحيوانات ومعادن وغير ذلك، فضلاً عن المناخ سواء أكان معتدلاً أم حاراً أم بارداً، والشمس والقمر، والكواكب السيارة والأفلاك في السموات وغيرها، لها تأثير مباشر بشكل سلبي أم إيجابي في الإقليم الذي تعيش فيه الموجودات بعامة، والإنسان خاصة، ولا سيما في طرائق عيشه وسكنه.
وفي إنتاجه للحضارة والمدنية والثقافة والعلوم والمعارف والفلسفات والفنون والشرائع والصناعات، وفي المواقف الروحية والدينية، أي بمعنى آخر، هل يعدّ هذا التأثير للمناخ والبيئة في الإنسان ومحيطه (حتمياً) أم إمكانياً؟.
