بالرغم من أن التاريخ علم مستقل عن علم الجغرافيا نظرياً إلى حد ما إلا أنه مما يلفت إنتباه المؤرخ والباحث كثيراً أن المعطيات التاريخية لا تعترف كثيراً بهذا الإستقلال حيث تتداخل الاحداث التاريخية لا تعترف كثيراً بهذا الإستقلال حيث تتداخل الأحداث التاريخية وتأثيراتها بحكم القرب أو التشابه فتشمل مناطق جغرافية عدة ومن هذا القبيل كتاب "تحفة المشتاق في أخبار نجد والحجاز والعراق" للشيخ عبد الله البسام رحمه الله المتوفي سنة 1346هجري / 1927 ميلادي.
هذا الكتاب نسخة مصورة لأصل مخطوط "تحفة المشتاق في أخبار نجد والحجاز والعراق" بخط مؤلفه الشيخ المؤرخ عبد الله بن محمد البسام وبمشاركة في تأليفه ونسخ مواضيع منه للشيخ المؤرخ إبراهيم بن صالح بن عيسى والشيخ محمد بن سليمان البسام رحمهم الله جميعاً، هو من الكتب المهمة التي صدرت قبل نحو عشر سنوات حيث سجل فيه الشيخ عبد الله البسام الأحداث التاريخية لمعظم مناطق الجزيرة العربية وورود أخبار تفصيلية لمعارك قبائل البادية مع ذكر أبرز أسماء شيوخ القبائل المشاركين في تلك الحروب الحاصلة بين عامي 850 هجري / 1344 هجري.
