هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا هو ثمرة معاناة الإمام النووي وعلمه، وهو خلاصة مختارة من دوحة الإسلام الغنّاء، فسماها رياض، وهي جمع روضة للصالحين المؤمنين الذين لا يحبون إلا أن يتمتعوا دون متاع في هذه الرياض ويرتشفوا سعداء هذه الثمار الطيبة المباركة من دوحة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ومن معين كتاب الله عز وجل. فرياض الصالحين: مواضيع قرآنية وتوجيهات نبوية، رسالية تخص المؤمن المسلم في خاصة نفسه وفي علاقته مع ربه، ومعاملته مع الناس، وهي اختيارات مركزة وهادفة، لم يتناول من القرآن إلا المحكم المفهوم ومن السنة إلا الصحيح المسند.
وبالنظر مما لهذا الكتاب من أهمية فقد اعتنى "عبد الله أحمد أبو زينة" بتحقيقه وتصحيحه في البداية قام باختيار النسخة من هذا الكتاب لجعلها أساساً لعمله، وهي نسخة مطبوعة أخذت عن نسخة مخطوطة صححت وقرأت على تلميذ المؤلف، بعد ذلك قام بضبط آيات القرآن الكريم وبيان موضعها من السور، كي يتحاشى اللحن في القرآن الكريم، وحتى يسهل على القارئ الرجوع إلى أي آية من المصحف إن أراد، وهو ما لم يذكر في أي طبعة صدرت لهذا الكتاب قبل ذلك.
كما وقام بمراجعة الأحاديث الموجودة على أمهات كتب الحديث وضبط الكلمات التي لا بد من ضبطها مع بيان معاني الكلمات الغريبة، مسترشداً في ذلك بكتاب لسان العرب لابن منظور أو القاموس المحيط للفيروز أبادي وفي ذلك ما فيه من فوائد للقراء. من ثم اعتنى بوضع علامات الترقيم التي خلت منها خلواً تاماً تلك النسخة التي اتخذها أساساً للمراجعة، والتحقيق، وحتى يوطد العلاقة بين القراء وبين الكتاب قام المحقق بتدوين نبذة عن المؤلف وعصره.
فقد اعتنى كل من الإمام الهيثمي والشيخاني الألباني والأرناؤوط بتحقيقه وتصحيحه وبتخريج ما جاء فيه من آيات وأحاديث شريعة من مصادرها الشريعة، كما سعوا إلى تذليل ما رأوه صعباً من الألفاظ وذلك بالشرح والتعريف كما وقدموا للكتاب بترجمة للإمام النووي عرضوا فيها لسيرته الذاتية ولحياته العلمية ولمكانته الفكرية ولشيوخه في الحديث والفقه، ولتلاميذه ومسموعاته، وأخلاقه وصفاته ولمناصحته الحكام وأخيراً لوفاته.
