يهدف هذا الكتاب لإعطاء القارئ الكريم فكرة عن طرق تربية وتعليم ذوي الإعاقات العقلية والبصرية والحركية والسمعية وتأهيلهم ليتمكنوا من التكيف مع محيطهم الاجتماعي ومن تطوير قدراتهم ودفعها إلى أقصى طريق ممكن بحيث يكونوا قادرين على استفادة منها في حياتهم العلمية، ولقد تطرقت في هذا الكتاب إلى أسباب هذه الإعاقات وطرق الوقاية منها وطرق تشخيصها وإلى مناهج هؤلاء الطلبة ووسائل تعليمهم وتأهيلهم وإلى تاريخ العناية بهم وتطور حركة الاهتمام بهم في الأردن وفي البلدان العربية المختلفة كما تطرقت إلى إرشاد الأهل في كيفية التعامل معهم وكذلك إرشاد المعلمين الذين يدرسونهم وإلى طرق تدريبهم على التعامل مع متطلبات الحياة اليومية من طعام ونظافة وغيرها.
والكتاب يعتبر مرجعاً هاماً لطلبة الكليات والجامعات والمرشدين التربويين ومعلمي التربية الخاصة في الوطن العربي وإني لآمل أن أكون قد وفقت في عرض مادته كما وآمل أن يستفيد كل المهتمين في هذا المجال من مادته العلمية واستخدامها في تربية وتطوير قدرات أصحاب هذه الفئات لتقديم خدمات متميزة لهم.
