إن أهم ما يميز الفكر الفلسفي الإسماعيلي برأي الكاتب عو عملية التأويل الباطني ضمن سياق النظرية العامة لإثبات الإمامة في العقائد الإسماعيلية والتي هي ذات صبغة فلسفية في نهجها فهي منذ تكوينها ونشأتها وانقسامها عن الشيعة الأم الأولى –من أهم هذه الفرق لما أحدثته على الساحة الإسلامية من أحداث بالغة الأهمية، امتدت إلى قرون طويلة من الزمن. وغيرت في مواقفها –برأي الكاتب- جزءاً من التاريخ الإسلامي، وقد لعبت الإسماعيلية دوراً هاماً وكبيراً ورئيساً في إحداث تغيرات جذرية وتاريخية من الناحية السياسية وخاصة بعد نجاح أمرها في تكوين الدولة الفاطمية، ودول أخرى في المشرق والمغرب. كما أنها أحدثت تغيراُ في النظرة العامة لمفهوم العقائد الدينية باستخدام النظريات الفلسفية المتعددة مثل نظرية الفيض الافلاطونية –ونظرية الإبداع، ونظرية المثل والممثول والنظرية الدورية للتاريخ الإنساني والتي فسرت بها الدين على أساس التأويل الباطني، ما أدى إلى تطور عام في أفكار الفلاسفة الإسماعيلين على مر العصور.
