عبد الله بن أحمد بن حنبل ( 213 هـ / 828م - 290 هـ / 903م )، هو أبو عبد الرحمن عبد الله بن أحمد بن محمد بن حنبل الشيباني البغدادي، حافظ للحديث، من أهل بغداد، والده هو الإمام أحمد بن حنبل، وأمه اسمها ريحانة، تزوجها الإمام أحمد بعد وفاة زوجته الأولى عباسة أم ابنه صالح بن أحمد بن حنبل، وأنجبت له ريحانة ابنه عبد الله هذا.
مولده ونشأته
ولد عبد الله بن أحمد سنة 213 هـ في بغداد ، تعلم على يد أبيه فكان مكثرا في الرواية عن أبيه، لأنه سمع المسند وهوسبعة وعشرون ألف حديث، والتفسير وهو مئة وعشرون ألف سمع منها ثمانين ألفا، والباقي وجادة، وسمع الناسخ والمنسوخ والتاريخ، وحديث شعبة، والمقدم والمؤخر في كتاب الله، وجوابات القرآن، والمناسك الكبير والصغير.

لهذا الكتاب منزلة كبيرة لما يتناوله من موضوعات تتنوع في مضمونها، ولما يحتله مؤلفه في علم الحديث من مكانة مرموقة .. فهذا هو "عبد الله بن احمد بن حنبل" رحمة الله عليهما الذي شهد له الكثير من العلماء بعظم نصيبه من العلم ، فقال عنه أبوه "أحمد بن حنبل" إن أبا عبد الرحمن قد وعى علما كثيرا" وكذلك فقال عنه أبوه بن أبي بدر البغدادي "عبد الله احمد جهبذ بن جهبذ" قد جمع في كتابه"السنة" ما يوافق السنة والجماعة من الآراء والرأى فيما خالفها.. فذكر في موضوعات كتابة الرأى في قضية خلق القرآن ورؤية الله تعالى ، وما روى في الكرسي وجلوس الله تعالى عله وكذلك الرد في بعض المسائل على الجهمية والدرية والخوارج وبعض الأحاديث عن الدجال وعذاب القبر وغيرها من المسائل التى وردت في هذا الكتاب ، جدير بالذكر أه كان في هذا الكتاب بعض الآثار في ذم الإمام الكبير "أبي حنيفه" حذفت لتوقف العلماء عن هذا الذم منذ القرن الخامس الهجري ولمكانة الإمام "أبي حنيفة" رحمه الله.
