علم النفس هو العلم الوصفى للظواهر النفسية. وهو يفحصها من جهة تضامنها وتنوعها. فى المنطق انتقاء وتقدير: يتعلق بدراسه العقل وحده- أعنى بدراسة النفس التى تعرف وتتصور. وهو يحكم على اتجاهات العقل وعملياته بناء على فكرتى الصواب والخطأ.
والمذهب النفسى الفلسفى ينكر وجود المنطق بوصفه علما قائما بذاته. وهذا المذهب كما يتمثل لدى بروتاجورا، ولدى "مونتنى" ولدى هيوم، وفى النزعتين الإنسانية والبرجمانية الحديثتين، يفسر التفكير البشرى، والعقل البشرى، عن طريق الطبيعة البشرية. ولكن من البين أن هذا المذهب النفسى ينتهي إلى الشك، ويقضى على كل قيمة للحقيقة، بل يقضى فى النهاية على نفسه.
إذن فهناك علم للمنطق. وهو العلم المعيارى للصواب، مثلنا أن علم الجمال والأخلاق مما العلمان المعياريان للجمال والخير. والمقصور بالعلم المعيارى ذلك العلم الذى يبرهن على أحكام تقويمية وينقدها.
