العزيز محمّد، جواباً على سؤالك بشأن روايتك (مقبرة المياه) اسمح لي أن أسرد تجربةً ذات دلالةٍ في رأيي، فعندما كنّا أنا وصديقي ومترجمي إلى اللغة الألمانيّة هارتموت فيندريخ نراجع تراجمه لإحدى رواياتي في منتصف تسعينيّات القرن الماضي، فاجأني برأي يقول فيه إنّ الرواية عندنا تسلية؛ وهو ما اعتبرته سوء ظنّ بعمل كان في حياتي دوماً قدس أقداس وهو الرواية، لأنّ حلمي دوماً ليس فقط أن أكتب رواية، بل أن تمكنني الأقدار يوماً من أن أحترف كتابة الرواية، فما كان منّي إلا أن اعترضت على رأيه: كيف يعقل أن يعامل الأوربيّون الرواية كمجرّد تسلية، سيّما الألمان؟ هل أعمال غوته أو أعمال توماس مان الروائيّة تسلية؟...
لم يفلح الرجل في محو الصدمة إلى أن تلقّيت رسالة من صديق سويسريّ آخر هوغيغر، الّذي سبق وأهديته (نزيف الحجر) بالألمانيّة؛ فكتب، في رسالة، تعليقاً إيجابيّاً على الرواية لينتهي إلى عبارةٍ استوقفتني، وهي: هذه أكثر من رواية، وهو ما يعني بالنسبة لإنسان خارج محفل المثقّفين، مثل غيغر، أنّ الرواية مسّت فيه أوتاراً أبعد من مجرّد تسلية، وإذا ترجمناها إلى لغتنا كمحترفين نقول إنّ الرجل اقتنص في الرواية رسالةً إلى جانب المتعة، لتكون ملاحظة غيغر بالنسبة لي ردّاً ضمنياً على رأي البروفيسور فيندريخ.
هذا المفتتح أسوقه هنا لكي أبشّرك بأنّ عملك أصاب هذين العصفورين العصيّين برمية واحدة، مّما يعني أنك استطعت، في أوّل عمل روائيّ تكتبه، أن تشبع فضولنا للمتعة الجماليّة إلى جانب أداء واجب أعظم شأناً هو: الروح الرساليّة، وهذا وحده أكثر من كاف.
وأعتقد أنّ حوارنا المطوّل الأخير، المفصّل والمستفيض، كان كافياً للإجابة على سؤال مهمّ وهو: لماذا؟... وهو ما يغنينا عن الخوض فيه من جديد.
فأحرّ التهاني لأنّك تحرّرت أوّلاً (لأنّ الإِبداع بالنسبة لي تحرّر)، ولم تكتفِ، ولكنّك حرّرت أيضاً، لأنّنا هيهات أن نحرّر إِن لم نتحرّر.
