لم يحظَ علم من العلوم بمثل ما حظيت به السنة النبوية، من اهتمام بالغ من قبل العلماء الربانيين، حفظاً وجمعاً، ورواية وضبطاً, وتحقيقاً وتمحيصاً, وتدريساً وشرحاً.
ومؤلف هذا الكتاب إمام من أئمة المسلمين، وعلم من أعلامهم، لقي الأئمة الكبار، وأخذ عنهم، وفي شيوخه كثرة.
وله عدة مصنفات في منقول ومعقول ومن أنظفها ((نوادر الأصول))، يفرِّق فيه بين المداراة والمداهنة، والمحاجّة والمجادلة، والمناظرة والمغالبة، والانتصار والانتقام إلخ، وهو كتاب فريد في بابه.
وتكمن أهمية هذا الكتاب فيما يلي:
1 - مؤلفه محدث، وقد ساق المتون في الكتاب بطرق وأسانيد يتفق فيها مع أهل طبقته ـ وهو من طبقة النسائي ـ، وحقيقة الأهمية تكمن فيما تفرد به عنهم، بل إنه روى أحاديث لم يشاركه فيها غيره، هذه وما قبلها نحن بحاجة فيها لأسانيده التي ساقها حتى نعرف حكمها ونستبين خبرها.
2 - والمؤلف زاهد، بثَّ في ثنايا الكتاب فهمه لتلك الأحاديث التي رواها، وأبان ما غمض فيها من المعاني، وأوضح ما خفي من المباني، على وفق ما آتاه الله من فهم وفقه لها.
ويعتبر هذا الكتاب أحد أهم المصادر الحديثية المهتمة بمعرفة الأحاديث الضعيفة والموضوعة، ومصدراً أساسياً من مصادرها.
وقد عمل المحقق على تقديم هذا السفر الجليل للقراء وإخراجه بأبهى حلة، فقد قابله على عدة نسخ خطية، وأثبت الفروق فيما بينها، كما عمل على تخريج الأحاديث والآثار التي يزخر بها الكتاب، وقد نقل الحكم على أغلبها من أقوال أهل العلم المتقدمين، فخرج الكتاب في أحسن صورة.
