تتقصى الباحثة في هذا الكتاب تاريخ وحاضر ممارسات الطب الشرعي في فلسطين المحتلة، وتحديداً في الضفة الغربية، في محاولة منها لفهم تقاطعات وتفاعلات منظومات المجتمع والدين والسياسة مع العلم والطب والقضاء داخل مؤسسة طبية حديثة تُعد من رموز سيادة الدولة الحديثة، لكن في سياق استعماري تغيب عنه سيادة الدولة. ويصف الكتاب بالتفصيل حياة جسد الميت/ة الفلسطيني/ة وبنية كينونته بين لحظة إعلان موته وبين مثواه الأخير حين يُجلب إلى مؤسسة الطب الشرعي الفلسطيني. وترى المؤلفة أنه يمكن قراءة تاريخ المجتمعات عامة، وتاريخ المجتمع الفلسطيني خاصة، من خلال تتبع بنى مسارات وممارسات الموت فيها، وأن لجسد الميت/ة وكالة اجتماعية سياسية تخرجه من شيئيته ليصبح شيئاً وذاتاً في اللحظة الزمكانية نفسها، متخذاً دوراً فاعلاً في إعادة تشكيل الذوات والأشياء والفضاء-الزمن من حوله.
