وتكمن المشكلة في لا معقولية تصرفات كبار المستثمرين الذين يطلبون من الشركات تحقيق نتائج مرتفعة للغاية، والنتيجة أنها تبحث عن العائد بعد ثلاثة شهور بدلاً من الاستثمار طويل المدى، وأنها تلجأ لنقل المصانع، والضغط على أجور العمال، وتتخلى عن خلق فرص العمل في الزمن الحاضر، وفي بلدها الأصلي، ولهذا يرى المؤلفان ضرورة الإسراع بإصلاح سياسة الادخار بعمق، ودون هذه الإراءات لن يتمكن تجنب حدوث أزمة جديدة للرأسمالية، مع كل ما يعنيه ذلك من نتائج.
