لقد أجمعت الآراء المتداولة بخصوص كلّ من التحليل النفسي (فرويد) والسيكولوجيا التكوينية (بياجيه) أن كل واحد منهما قد تأسّس وتطوّر وبنى جهازه المفاهيمي بمعزل عن الآخر.
فأهمّ المفاهيم التي بلورها التحليل النفسي هي: اللاشعور، الكبت، الصراع، التوتر، التوازن والليبيدو... إلخ، بينما بلور علم النفس التكويني مفاهيم أخرى من قبيل: الإستيعاب، التلاؤم، التكيّف، التوازن والأخطوطة...
فهل توجد فعلاً هوة سحيقة تفصل بين المذهبين السابقي الذكر، أو على الأقل ما هو نوع التباين أو التباعد القائم بينهما؟ وهل يُمكن القول إن إنفصالهما تقتضيه الضرورة العلمية؟ وإلى أي حدّ يُمكن الزعم بأن التحليل النفسي وعلم النفس التكويني يبحثان معاً في الموضوع نفسه، أي الحياة النفسية التي يمكن تقسيمها نظرياً فقط، أي معرفياً، إلى ذكاء ووجدان؟ وإلى أي حد يُمكن للباحث أن يبلور إطاراً نظرياً يُمكنَّه من دمج الإتجاهين معاً يقصد بناء علم نفس يطبعه التكامل؟...
