عصام الجلبي / وزير نفط العراقي الأسبق: من عاصره يصفه بأنه اسم على مسمى، كان عصاميّاً خلال مراحل دراسته وعلمه وحياته.
حصل على بعثة وزارة النفط عام 1959، وتخرّج من جامعة لندن بمرتبة الشرف في الهندسة الميكانيكيّة.
بعد سنتين من العمل في كليَّة الهندسة / جامعة البصرة، التحق عام 1967 كمعاون مهندس بوزارة النفط، وتدرّج بعناوين وظيفيّة ومسؤوليات قياديّة، حتى إستيزاره في آذار 1987، بعد أن تبوأ مناصب مختلفة كرئيس لمؤسّسة المشاريع النفطيّة، وشركة النفط الوطنيّة، ووكيل لوزارة النفط.
ترك بصماته على غالبيّة مشاريع النفط والغاز في العراق، إضافة إلى دوره البارز في منظمة الدول المصدّرة للنفط (الأوبك)، أحيل على التقاعد ولم يتجاوز عمره 47 عاماً.
إلا أنّه برز في المحافل الدوليّة والإقليمية كأحد خبراء النفط البارزين، وها هو اليوم، وبعد إنتظار طويل، يظهر علينا عصام الجلبي بكتابه الذي أورد فيه سيرة حافلة مع ذكرياته والعديد من المحطّات التي تستحق التوقّف عندها.
