يقدم هذا الكتاب مفهوم الصورة بوصفها منتجا ثقاففيا إضافة الى كونه خبرة أسلوبية ومن ثم فان استيضاح تشكلات الصور السردية البلغية لا ينبغى أن ينفصل عن كشف الإطار الذهنى الذى أبدعها فى لحظة بذاتها وفى جغرافيا معرفية معينة ومن ثم فان مهمة ربط الصور الروائية مثلا بمرجعياتها الذهنية يمكن ان تشكل مبحثا مختلفا وخطوة تكميلية ليست مضروطة بالاشكال النقدي للصور السردية . القضية الثانية التى يقدمها . د. شرف الدين مجدولين تتعلق بحدود الصور السردية ، حيث الحدود المتعينة للصور الروائية أو القصصية أو السينمائية لاتمثل قضية مركزية فى دراسة الجماليات الأسلوبية وتشكلات الصور فى السرد تفترض حدودا تقريبية قد تتوسل بمكونات الموضوع والشخصيات والفضاءات والأزمنة والمشاهد والمواقف وقد تقترن بالجمل والمقطوعات والواحدات الحاكئية ومناط تحللها من إجراءات التحدي الثابت اعتقاده الدائم بأن الصور لا تخضع لقوالب قارة ولا يمكن عزلها عن مسار تداعيها ، وانما هى وجود مفتوح وما هية ملتبسة بالـ " ما قبل " والـ" مابعد " فى السياق النصى المفرد ، شئ شبيه فى ما نتخيل بالخلية السرطانية المتفاقمة التى تستعصى على الضبط وتند عن الحصر وكل محاولة لاجتثاث وجودها الملتبس بمكونات الجسد فيها هلاك الروح المستترة . تلك كانت أهم خلاصات هذا الكتاب بصدد الصورة السردية فى الرواية والقصة القصيرة والسينما .
