أثناء دراستى للماجستير والدكتوراه (1993- 2000م), لاحظنت أن عددا كبيرا من عبارات الجرح والتعديل وألفاظهما جاء فى صورة مجازية, فقمت بدءا من عام 2000م بدراسة موضوع "دور المجاز فى التوليد الدلالى"- دراسة تطبيقية على مصطلحات الحديث وعبارات الجرح والتعديل". واتضح لى بعدها أن هناك وسائل أخرى غير المجاز فى توليد المصطلحات وهى: الاشتقاق, والنحت, والتركيب, والاختصار والرموز.
بعد هذا ذهبت أقرأ لعلماء الفلسفة والاجتماع فى تعريف (النظرية) كى أرتب البحوث السابقة فى نسق وترتيب منظم يجمعها جميعا, أى أننى حاولت أن تخضع هذه البحوث لترتيب منطقى يشكل نظرية.
وأثناء كل هذه وجدت شيئا عجبا وهو أن مصطلح "نظرية العلم" استخدمه ابن الصلاح, صاحب أهم كتاب فى علم مصطلح الحديث وهو المشهور ب "المقدمة" ووجدت المصطلح فى كتب ابن تيمية ك "منهاج السنة" وبقية كتب مصطلح الحديث, ثم رأيت بعد ذلك آراء لمرجليوث, وفؤاد سزكين, تنبه إلى وجود نظرية عربية فى علم الإسناد.
بناء على كل ما سبق توصلت إلى أن للمحدثين نظرية فى علم المصطلح, أحد فروع علم اللغة التطبيقى, ولما رأيت أن عددا من الباحثين الكبار سنا ومقاما من شتى البلاد العربية يحاولون التأسيس لنظرية عربية فى علم المصطلح, وأن المادة التى بين أيديهم لم تسعفهم ولن تسعفهم, وأن المادة التى بين يدى "جهود علماء الحديث فى علم المصطلح" هى أغنى وأقدر على تأسيس نظرية عربية فى علم المصطلح- سارعت إلى كتابة السطور التى بين يديك.. وهى محاضرة عامة ألقيتها فى السينمار العام بكلية الآداب والعلوم, جامعة قطر يوم الأربعاء الموافق 21/11/2007. وما أردت من المحاضرة إلا أن أثبت للدارسين العرب أن تراثهم ما أغناه وأن بوسعه أن يجيب على كل سؤال يوجه إليه.
