إنها حكايات حقيقية حدثت، وهي غريبة في بعض الأحيان، مفزعة ومرعبة في كل الأحيان، وليس لها أي تفسير علمي. لقد انهمك المؤلف في جمع هذه المادة سنين عدة، ثم قام بتحقيقها تحقيقًا مفصلًا، وانتقى من آلاف المواد التي جمعها تلك المجموعة الصغيرة التي ثبتت صحتها بلا أي شك، وهو يقدمها هنا بدون تفسير، على القارئ يجد لها تفسير. ولكن السؤال الذي سأله المؤلف لنفسه، هل هذه القصص تعبر عن قوى خارقة للإنسان؟ أم أنها أشباح تتراءى لبعض الناس؟ ففي بعض هذه القصص ما يثبت أن المسألة هي قوى خفية غير مفهومة يستطيع الإنسان أن يستغلها لإظهار ما يتراءى أنها أشباح؟ وفي البعض الآخر تظهر المسألة وكأنها أشباح لأناس ماتوا بطرق غامضة ويريدون توصيل رسالة لبعض الناس، ولكنها تظهر كما لو كانت قوى غامضة لبعض الناس.
المسالة غير مفهومة. هل هي أشباح أم قدرات خارقة وغامضة لبعض بني البشر.
